State Trading Organization (STO) has introduced green concrete or low carbon concrete to Maldivian market.
Green concretes are produced using recycled raw material compares to conventional concrete, reducing the environmental impact and significantly lowering the heat of hydration than the normal concrete. Green concrete is a concrete that emits less carbon dioxide than normal concrete. The use of green concrete instead of normal concrete reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 10-15 percent.
STO has played an important role in introducing modern resources to the Maldivian construction industry. According to STO the green concrete released by the company to the market will provide opportunities for users to use environmentally friendly resources in the construction industry.
In addition, company also stated that this is an important step forward for the Maldives in its journey to become a carbon neural country.
