Tristan Terorotua of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, caught a Black Snoek pending IGFA All-Tackle World Record during a bucket-list fishing trip to the Maldives in March.
Terorotua was slow-pitch jigging off Addu Atoll in the Maldives on March 15 when he hooked into his first fish of the trip, a 14.06 kilogram Black Snoek. It is the largest Black Snoek recorded in the world so far.
According to Terorotua who captured the Black Snoek, he was targeting a Ruby Snapper when he caught the fish. The snapper was one of many species on his nine-day trip’s hit list, but the Snoek came as a complete shock.
Masaaki Bandoh caught the current IGFA All-Tackle World Record Black Snoek in December 2017 at Tokunoshima, Japan, weighing 12.50 kilograms. The IGFA has accepted Terorotua’s world record application, which is currently pending.
