State Trading Organization (STO) has opened a laboratory to test the quality of oil imported into the Maldives.
The laboratory was inaugurated by Chairman of STO Hamid Nashid and Managing Director Hussain Amru at a ceremony held in STO Trade Center.
According to STO, the laboratory will be operated by Geo-Chem Middle East at the beginning. However, in future Maldivians will be operating the lab.Therefore, Maldivians will be trained to achieve this goal in the future, according to the company.
Moreover, STO stated that with the laboratory, cost of Oil importers and Airports will be greatly reduced for testing the oils as samples do not have to be sent abroad for testing.
The tests conducted at STO Lab will receive ISO and IEC 17025:2017 accreditation. Therefore, all countries around the world will accept the test.
