CEO of State Trading Organization (STO) and Chairman of MIFCO, Hassan Amru has announced plans to pack the remaining fish in Mauritius after packing the fish in Felivaru.
According to a tweet by Amru, MIFCO can pack a total of 50 tonnes of fish per day, which is the number of fish caught by two or three vessels per day. Moreover, he stated that the remaining fish purchased by MIFCO are sold out as fresh fish and that the company had suffered losses due to it. Furthermore, Amru stated that it is better to pack fish in Mauritius and sell it to European countries than selling fresh fish to Thailand at a loss.
In addition, efforts are underway to increase the capacity of Felivaru and Kooddoo factories to increase the fish production capacity of MIFCO. And according to Amru, packing of fish in Mauritius will be carried till the expansion project of MIFCO is complete, therefore, till then they can reduce loss from sales of fish.
