On the westside of Utheemu’s coastal area, a historic well has been resurfaced.
According to Utheemu council, the Well was resurfaced in the westside of the Island due to severe coastal erosion.
Westside beach of the Island (Utheemu Thun’di) is the famous beach that National hero Mohamed Thakurufaanu used to catch birds according to historians.
Moreover, according to the council president Abdulla Rasheed, several historic items have been previously found from that area of the Island. Furthermore, Abdulla Rasheed stated that the council plans to relocate the Well to Boduthakurufaanu Memorial Center or to Utheemu Ganduvaru.
In addition, the council has informed the Ministry of Heritage regarding the resurfaced Well, and Well will be protected and preserved under the guidance from the Ministry of Heritage and in accordance to Heritage Act in collaboration with Boduthakurufaanu Memorial Center, Utheemu Council, and Ministry of Heritage.
