Sh. Funadhoo Council has decided to provide a 50% discount on this month’s electricity bill for all households and businesses.
The decision was made during the council meeting because bills in September were higher than usual due to technical issues with the powerhouse and disruptions in power supply. As a result, the council wishes to alleviate the difficulties that households and businesses confront.
Moreover, the council passed a MVR 3.5 million supplementary budget to assist the powerhouse for the next three months. This budget will be used for purchasing oil, renovation works, to resolve technical issues, and to train the employees
According to the President of Council Ahmed Ibrahim Fulhu, the powerhouse is unable to provide electricity in peak hours due to the sudden failure of the 1.2kW generator while 800W generator is under maintenance. Moreover, he appreciated the support and patience from the residents of the island.
In addition, during the September also council passed a supplementary budget to resolve the issues to provide electricity for the island. In Funadhoo electricity is provided by the Council.
