Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed visited some Islands of Thiladhunmathi.
He was accompanied by Mrs. Sherin Tabassum, the Country Director of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Mr. Haaroon Rasheed, Managing Director of AgroNat. Moreover, Deputy Minister Hassan Nashid also accompanied the Minister on this trip.
The Minister paid a visit to the Agricultural Center in HDh. Hanimaadhoo, as well as Ha. Maafahi, HDh. Theefaridhoo, two Islands that have ongoing wide operation of agricultural activities. Also, Ha. Muraidhoo, and HDh. Vaikaradhoo, which is one of the region’s two largest farming islands.
The main focus, according to Deputy Minister Nashid, was on the Hanimaadhoo Agricultural Center, as the Ministry intends to further develop the agricultural center in Hanimaadhoo.
Moreover, another purpose of the tour is to identify local farmers’ concerns and difficulties, and provide solutions to their problems. And assisting in the resolution of those issues.
Further Nashid added, the team met both council and farmers from Hanimaadhoo, Muraidhoo, and Vaikaradhoo to discuss their concerns. Main concerns of farmers were difficulties due to covid, lack of land, and difficulty in marketing their products, which is in collaboration with AgroNat they are trying to find a solution according to Nashid
In addition, Farmers’ primary concerns, according to Nashid, were issues arisen due to the Covid-19, lack of land, and trouble marketing their products, which are being addressed in partnership with AgroNat to propose a solution to market their products. Also, the government would like to assist farmers in any possible way to overcome their issues, Nashid added.
