Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) has facilitated a special program named as ARC AID, in order to provide basic food supplies to families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
ARC AID has reached over 1800 vulnerable children from 58 islands, according to a press release by ARC. There were 366 children from North for Atolls (Ha.Alif, Ha.Dhaal,Shaviyani, Noonu Atoll) according to the list in the press release. The number of children from various atolls were detailed in the list.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic started over a year ago, many families are experiencing difficulties financially and has affected children’s lives most. ARC believes that no child should be deprived of their fundamental right to adequate food and nutrition especially during this pandemic.
To alleviate every day struggle faced by the vulnerable families with children ARC AID provides food supplies to the families referred by the government authorities, local councils and other NGOs. The food package included, rice, flour, lentils, milk powder, tuna cans, eggs, assorted cans of vegetables and beans
In the press release, ARC also appreciated the partners including UNICEF, BML, Dhiraagu and individual donors for their generous contribution. Furthermore, ARC reaffirms commitment to protect and promote the rights of children throughout the country
